Edward Hospital Installs 12 Carestream Health, Inc. DRX Systems to Increase Efficiency, Enhance Patient Care

ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 17 — Edward Hospital & Health Services (Naperville, Ill.) recently installed 12 Carestream wireless digital radiography (DR) systems to enhance patient care. These systems allow physicians to review X-ray imaging exams in about five seconds, which can lead to an immediate diagnosis and faster treatment decisions.

All 12 CARESTREAM DRX Systems are equipped with Carestream’s cesium iodide DRX-1C detectors to improve image quality and help reduce dose. While evaluating the new Carestream equipment, the radiology staff conducted a study with a DRX-1C detector and found that its use helped significantly reduce the dose of radiation used with most X-ray exams. The CARESTREAM DRX-1C detector features high DQE (detective quantum efficiency) and exceptional spatial resolution to enhance image quality and minimize exposure.

“Carestream’s DRX systems with DRX-1C detectors enable us to dramatically improve operational efficiencies while concurrently reducing dose by up to 60% for the patients we serve,” said Ryan Garland, BS, RT(R), Edward Hospital’s Radiology Quality Control Coordinator.

The hospital implemented eight CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems into existing equipment in their ED and radiology department and used three CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit kits to upgrade existing portable X-ray units used for patient bedside imaging in the OR, ICU and ED. The hospital is also installing a fully automated CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution System at its new outpatient center in south Plainfield, Ill. The DRX-Evolution expedites all types of X-ray exams, which can help reduce patient wait times and allows the clinic to handle more patients each day.

“Since our DRX systems can upgrade existing portable and room-based imaging systems, healthcare facilities of all sizes and budgets can afford to implement innovative technology that helps enhance patient care,” said Diana L. Nole, President, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream Health.

Edward Hospital & Health Services includes the highly-ranked 300-bed Edward Hospital and its Edward Plainfield campus that features a freestanding ER, cancer center, outpatient center, surgery center and physicians’ offices.
