May 3, 2006 – Northstar Neuroscience is expected to complete its IPO this week. The company has an innovative electrostimulation device that treats stoke victims. The package includes a pacemaker-like implanted device, which produces a low-voltage electrical current, combined with a lead planted into the cortex of the brain. The device induces a condition known as neuroplasticity, a natural process in which neurons and new neural pathways take the place of stroke-damaged neurons.
