Genzyme Commits Grants Money To Help Schools Teach Biotech

The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council has landed Cambridge-based Genzyme Corp. as the first corporate sponsor for the new BioTeach program offered through the Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation. Genzyme has pledged $50,000 a year for five years to BioTeach to help public schools update their science education. BioTeach is looking to raise $8 million over the next six years to outfit every public school in Massachusetts with lab equipment and supplies specifically required to teach biotechnology as well as provide professional training for biology teachers from each school in biotechnology and how to teach it. To date, 59 Massachusetts high schools have benefited as a result of the funds raised for this program.
