Folate Could Help Prevent Stroke

Men with a high intake of folic acid are at significantly lower risk of stroke, finds new research confirming previous studies. The researchers say there could be enough evidence to support advice encouraging men to increase their folate intake to help prevent stroke. In Europe there are around 650,000 stroke deaths each year. Smoking, obesity, high cholesterol and physical inactivity are all controllable risk factors for the event, which is more common at younger ages in men.
