Big Pharma Moves Into Cancer

May 16, 2005 -- One out of every three Americans will die of cancer, and the number is inching closer to one out of every two, according to recent studies. Cancer is the second largest killer in the Western world, after cardiovascular disease. Yet for many years, big pharma hardly responded. Cancer was not seen as an interesting target. As a matter of fact, the two biggest US pharmas, Pfizer and Merck, ignored cancer for years . No longer true it seems.
