Avastin Plus Erbitux More Effective

Adding the drug Avastin to a regimen of targeted therapy Erbitux and chemotherapy in patients with advanced colon cancer is more effective than the two drugs alone, a leading cancer researcher said on Wednesday. A mid-stage trial of 74 patients found that 38 percent who received all three drugs had major tumor shrinkage, compared with 23 percent in the two-drug arm of the study, said lead investigator Dr. Leonard Saltz of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
