AmorChem’s 2019 KNOCK OUT Event: Meet the Contenders

Back by popular demand, AmorChem, the innovative Quebec-based seed venture capital fund, is hosting the 5th edition of its KNOCK OUT Event.

Montreal, Quebec, CANADA – April 9, 2019 - Back by popular demand, AmorChem, the innovative Quebec-based seed venture capital fund, is hosting the 5th edition of its KNOCK OUT Event.

Following a province-wide call for proposals, three academic research teams have now been selected as Contenders to participate in the final stage of the contest to be held during the April 24th 2019, Effervescence conference in Montreal. After several weeks of training, the three teams will duke it out in the ring against a panel of Heavyweight Champions in order to qualify for a $500,000 financing from AmorChem.

The Heavyweight line-up was announced earlier in March, and now, in the Contenders’ corner, anxiously practicing their scientific jabs and technical uppercuts, we have

  • Dr. Tarik Möröy, Montreal Clinical Research Institute & Dr. Nicolas Moitessier, McGill University: A new approach for discovering myc inhibitors
  • Dr. Alexey V. Pshezhetsky, Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Center & University of Montreal & Dr. Christopher Cairo, University of Alberta: Human neuraminidase inhibitors for the treatment of cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases
  • Dr. Jacques P. Tremblay, CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Centre:Using CRISPR-CAS9 in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease

To celebrate its KNOCK OUT’s 5th edition, AmorChem is proud to present a different format for the match. The Contenders and Heavyweights will be matched up for a longer period. More complete presentations from the Contenders and more jabs from the Heavyweights will provide a broader perspective of the potential for spin-off company creation.

There’s more! This year, AmorChem is responding to a popular request made by the loyal audience who has attended since our first KNOCK OUT in 2014: the crowd will be invited to step into the ring to ask questions that have not come up in the heat of the match. The Contenders are ready… will the audience be?

Mr. Christopher Hall, renowned radio and newspaper columnist and comedian, will be the master of ceremonies. Like any good boxing referee, he will buffer the blows (with water bottles at the ready!) and cheer on the Contenders.

here can only be one winner; which Contender will be left standing after five rounds in the ring with our Heavyweights, cheered on by the crowd? Who will be crowned the champion of the ring? The winner will be revealed during Effervescence on April 24th, 4PM, at the TOHU, in Montreal.

There are some tickets left ! You can register to the Effervescence Cocktail on April 24 and have access to the AmorChem Knock Out Event. www.effervescencemtl.com
