STONY BROOK, NY--(Marketwired - December 04, 2013) - Applied DNA Sciences (OTCQB: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions, today announced the signing of three new customers who will be using SigNature® DNA to mark electronics supplied to the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). Suppliers of a certain category of electronics are required to use APDN’s SigNature DNA when providing these electronics to the Agency.
The new customers included a manufacturer, bringing the total of Original Component Manufacturers (OCMs) using SigNature DNA to six. Two of the customers are electronics distributors.
The total of number of customers now contracted to use SigNature DNA for the DLA program is at 26. These include customers at all nodes in the supply chain, including prime contractors, authorized distributors, independent distributors, and manufacturers. Over 500,000 electronic components have been marked to this point, providing a rapidly growing universe of marked parts, and opportunities for companies to benefit in various ways. The signings have accelerated, officials said, as the value of the program to customers has become more widely known, and the program itself has matured.
Officials also said that the addition of a sixth manufacturer adds greatly to the value of the program for both present and future customers. Manufacturers -- who use a SigNature DNA Authenticity™ Mark -- provide absolute assurance of originality as parts move throughout the supply chain and for their entire lifecycle. This potentially provides a growing pool of verifiable parts for both military and commercial buyers. Distributors use a SigNature DNA Provenance™ Mark, providing traceability to the singular distributor. Just yesterday, APDN announced the launch of our Authorized Distributor™ Mark, which signifies the extremely low risk Authorized Channel.
Two of the new customers are Long Island-based companies, bringing the total of Long Island SigNature DNA-marking electronics customers to seven. APDN has maintained deep and longstanding roots in Long Island. The company aims to play a strong role in a defense and biotech resurgence in the area.
Janice Meraglia, APDN Vice President for Government and Military Programs, commented, “We believe the SigNature DNA marking program is unarguably accelerating both in quantity and quality, with all nodes of the supply chain represented. We think the program has earned its validity in this area, and in its relevance to other Federal Categories and commercial parts.”
Dr. James A. Hayward, CEO and President of Applied DNA Sciences, stated “The growth and maturity of the SigNature DNA program for military electronics reflects the growth and maturity of our company as a whole. We are committed to deliver the same excellence in all our verticals, whether security, textiles, or others. Increasing the Universe of marked parts accelerates the value we bring by forensic authentication, assuring protection for our customers, and the government, and generating tangible returns on our customers’ investments.”
