This award is the most recent of a long string of accolades Angel MedFlight has received from the ESGR. Angel MedFlight was also named among national semifinalists for the prestigious Secretary of Defense Freedom Award in 2018 as well as former executive, Jason Siegert, accepting the Patriot Award in 2017.

The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

“It’s an honor to receive the Patriot Award but it’s even more rewarding knowing that we can support our company’s mission as well as those service members who sacrifice and serve our country,” Andrew Bess said.

Bess has been with Angel MedFlight since 2014 and leads the executive team serving as the President and Chief Operating Officer. His commitment to patient care and safety drives Angel MedFlight’s leadership in air ambulance services and medical flight care.

Before joining Angel MedFlight in 2014, Bess worked across the country in the hospital consulting space and physician practice plans, specializing in revenue cycle and healthcare operations management. In his role at Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance, Bess oversees the operations, clinical services, marketing, business development, planning and the company’s overall strategic direction. His experience and leadership focus on growing a company that provides best-in-class clinical care at 40,000 feet, expanding patient advocacy, and the importance of getting to the right level of care.

Bess received his undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona and later went on to obtain his MBA from the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management. He is married and the proud father of two children.

About the Patriot Award

Our Nation has relied heavily on Guard and Reserve Service members since entering continuous operations more than 15 years ago. Employer support enhances retention rates in the Armed Forces and, in the end, strengthens our national security. To recognize employers who support their Guard and Reserve employees, ESGR grants a series of Department of Defense awards.

The first in ESGR’s series of awards is the Patriot Award. An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors and bosses for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
