WASHINGTON, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The use of antidepressant drugs was associated with a significantly increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes in people who were already at greater risk of the disease -- and this effect was not seen in those taking the drug metformin, according to a report presented here today at the American Diabetes Association’s 66th Annual Scientific Sessions. Other studies yielded conflicting reports on the role of depression in the risk for diabetes. Researchers concurred, however, that those who have diabetes and depression need better management for the latter, which can interfere with their ability to provide self care for their diabetes.
