This afternoon the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology released new guidelines for when patients should take cholesterol-lowering medicines. They back away from prescribing medicine based on target blood-levels of low-density lipoprotein, the “bad cholesterol” that leads to heart attacks and strokes.
