NEWARK, Del., April 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Delaware-based W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (“Gore”), a global materials science company, has been named Delaware BioScience Association’s 2017 Company of the Year. The award was presented at a gala celebration at the DuPont Country Club on April 25th, 2017.
“It’s wonderful to be recognized in our home state for specific contributions to bioscience, an industry that’s important to us,” said Stephen Young, Gore’s PharmBIO Products Business Leader.
For more than forty years, Gore has been applying its materials science expertise to a variety of specific challenges in the life science industry. Gore has a proven track record of developing and commercializing innovative new materials and products to address challenging implantable medical device applications and solving difficult problems for biologics manufacturers.
The Delaware BioScience Association (Delaware Bio) is a non-profit bioscience trade organization that collaborates with local businesses and organizations to advance the growth of the bioscience industry in Delaware and the region. Delaware BIO recognizes outstanding contributions to the bioscience community on an annual basis at its Awards Gala.
According to Helen Stimson, Delaware BioScience Association’s President, “We recognize Gore for developing step-change solutions to help biopharmaceutical manufacturers fit their requirements for product purity, process effectiveness and drug delivery innovation. Whether it’s a new plunger technology that eliminates lubricants, like silicone in bare glass pre-filled syringes or a new chromatography column that offers scientists an improved purification process, Gore’s commitment to creating groundbreaking products for biosciences is being realized.”
By way of example regarding Gore’s dedication to innovation, the company recently announced a collaborative research agreement whereby ViaCyte, Inc and Gore will work together to develop novel implantable cell therapy delivery device technologies that provide protection from immune rejection, potentially benefiting patients with insulin-requiring diabetes, both type 1 and type 2.
Gore also launched the GORE™ Protein Capture Device with Protein A for Rapid mAb Purification in January at PepTalk’s Protein Science Week. Designed for use in drug discovery, this chromatography solution enables faster processing times and potential for more highly concentrated elution pools. This allows researchers to screen more candidates in less time and potentially eliminate a downstream concentration step during the antibody purification process.
“For years, Gore has been improving lives with materials science expertise, and we look forward to continuing to solve complex challenges in the bioscience arena by applying our advanced materials capabilities,” Young said. “We are particularly proud of receiving this award and we thank the Delaware BioScience Association for this honor.”
