WOBURN, Mass., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- VisEn Medical, Inc., a leader in fluorescence in vivo imaging from research through medicine, today announced the appointment of Tarif Awad, Ph.D., as Director of External Scientific Collaborations. In this new position, Dr. Awad will manage VisEn’s growing network of research and development collaborations with leading scientists in academic and commercial institutions throughout the United States. Dr. Awad joins VisEn from Affymetrix, Inc., where he was Senior Manager of Pharmaceutical and Industrial Collaborations.

While at Affymetrix, Dr. Awad was responsible for designing and supporting key collaborative programs in pharmaceutical and clinical applications of microarray technology, and was a liaison to the company’s leading research partners in academia, government and industry. Awad earned a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of California, Irvine, and was awarded a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Washington. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and has co-authored numerous publications in the fields of molecular biology, systems biology and developmental biology.
