Velos Spring analytics platform for clinical research rolls out with a collaborative approach

Velos, Inc. is rolling out its Velos Spring analytics platform for clinical research with a collaborative approach.

FREMONT, Calif., July 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Velos, Inc., a market leader in clinical research management software, is rolling out its Velos Spring analytics platform for clinical research with a collaborative approach.

Velos, Inc. is a market leader in clinical research management software for clinical research sites. Healthcare organizations using Velos products receive approximately 50% of NIH funding among the 100 largest such recipients.

There is an opportunity among organizations conducting clinical trials to better leverage their various data sources to conduct clinical research in such areas as study feasibility, matching patients to clinical trials or other treatments, and generally improving the quality and accessibility of data for clinical research and related operational uses. Velos Spring was created to support this opportunity.

Most clinical data at hospitals and clinics is structured for patient care and related administration. In addition, much of the data useful for clinical research is in text or other formats that is not natively conducive to clinical research. Developed over the last few years, Velos Spring tackles these problems by organizing and classifying data and providing natural language search and other features that significantly improve the utility of clinical data sources for medical research.

To test Velos Spring, the company worked with a customer-partner to compare patients found using Velos Spring to patients enrolled in a group of clinical trials. Velos Spring found 100% of the enrolled patients who met the eligibility criteria --- an unprecedented result. A publication on the project is pending.

The company is pursuing a collaborative model in which researchers across sites can work together on clinical research projects. This collaborative approach reduces redundant effort in areas such as finding suitable clinical trials for patients. The approach also enables researchers to work together across larger patient populations to get promising treatments into the hands of patients. This will be increasingly important in the coming era of precision medicine.

Velos Spring is a standalone product that works with any data source and can be integrated with any third-party system. The product is also integrated with Velos Volunteer, which supports patient recruitment through study enrollment, and Velos eResearch which supports all aspects of study fulfillment.

“With Velos Spring, we hope to help open things up and enable clinical researchers to better harness clinical data and one another to improve and accelerate medical research,” says Velos CEO John S. McIlwain.

Velos expresses its sincere thanks to its academic medical center and pharmaceutical company collaborators for their assistance and contributions to the initiative.
