Washington State University and the University of Washington will each get a five-year, $40 million grant to help develop sustainable biofuels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday. The UW grant is for focusing on using sustainably grown woody energy crops to produce biogasoline and renewable aviation fuel. The university will lead a consortium of eight organizations working throughout the entire woody biomass supply chain to promote the financing, construction and operation of multiple biorefineries, while also reaching out to landowners and managers, students and faculty to foster workforce development opportunities.
