ZEISS announces that it has assisted the University of Toronto to enhance its open access microscopy imaging facility at the faculty of Medicine by providing a variety of ZEISS imaging systems customized for various types of applications. The University’s recent purchase includes ZEISS ELYRA PS.1, a superresolution system, ZEISS LSM 880 confocal, ZEISS Cell Observer SD, a spinning disk confocal, ZEISS Cell Observer for structured illumination, ZEISS Axio Scan.Z1 slide scanner and ZEISS Axio Scope.A1, an immunofluorescence microscope that will offer its users the broadest range of imaging modalities possible.
ZEISS ELYRA, the superresolution microscope purchased, is configured with photo activated localization microscopy (PALM), structured illumination microscopy (SIM) and laser scanning spectral confocal (LSM) modalities, which allow visualization of structures up to 10 nm, 10x better than optical resolution. ZEISS Cell Observer SD is capable of high speed optical sectioning, ideal for examination of sub-cellular dynamics. This system is equipped with a Yokogawa CSU-X1 and two cameras, one for high resolution and the other for high sensitivity imaging. ZEISS Axio Scan.Z1 is a high resolution digital whole slide scanner which can accommodate up to 100 slides for both fluorescence and brightfield (IHC) automated batch scanning of tissue sections.
“We were thrilled with our experience with ZEISS. The quality of their microscopy equipment, the professionalism of their sales representatives and technical staff, as well as their capacity to offer an integrated solution for our facility made the difference.” said Dr. Stephen Girardin, Director of the Microscopy Imaging Laboratory.
General Manager of Carl Zeiss Canada Ltd, Abdel Barraj commented, “The technologies now available at the Microscopy Imaging Laboratory along with the workshops planned by the facility will be instrumental to the research community at the University of Toronto and the surrounding area.”
