Ultrasonix Medical Corporation Recognized as Medical Device Company of the Year by LifeSciences British Columbia

BURNABY, British Columbia, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeSciences British Columbia today announced that Ultrasonix Medical Corporation has been awarded with the 2007 Medical Device Company of the year for its 9th annual BC Biotechnology Awards.

The awards are presented annually by LifeSciences British Columbia (formerly BC Biotech) to recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the development of British Columbia’s biotechnology industry, and to increase public awareness and understanding of life sciences in the province.

2007’s awards bring added significance as this is the first year LifeSciences British Columbia celebrates its new entity. Formerly known as BC Biotech and BC MedTech, the two medical organizations joined forces creating a singular entity called LifeSciences British Columbia to promote and support a growing biomedical and medical device industry in the province.

“This is the inaugurating year for the new Medical Device Company category. Ultrasonix Medical Corporation has demonstrated unprecedented growth year to year and consistently shown an exemplary success within the medical device industry. The selection committee was impressed with Ultrasonix’s innovative product platform and its success in this highly competitive market,” said Daryl Wisdahl, Vice President External for British Columbia Medical Technology Industry Association.

“On behalf of the biotechnology and greater life sciences industry in British Columbia, we congratulate each of the very deserving recipients,” commented David Hall, Chair of LifeSciences British Columbia. “The achievements being made here in British Columbia are truly of a global caliber, which is exemplified tremendously by Ultrasonix and the entire 2007 slate of recipients.”

“It is a great honor to accept recognition from the industry association. The praise from customers and industry organizations reflect Sonix’s innovative product platform and its team,” stated John T. Buhler, President and CEO of Ultrasonix Medical Corporation. “The recognition given bolsters confidence in Ultrasonix’s position in medical imaging device industry.”

The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony April 18th in front of an audience of approximately 600 biotechnology and public policy leaders at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver, Canada.
