RICHMOND, British Columbia, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ultrasonix Medical Corporation Ltd. Announced a substantial growth for the first quarter of 2008, with a 20% increase in revenue over the same period in 2007. The company attributes its strong growth to new advances on the award winning Sonix OP and Sonix SP systems as well as substantial market growth in the Emergency Medicine market.
Increased sales for the Sonix OP and Sonix SP platforms can be largely attributed to a new breakthrough technology, EPI Extended Pulse Imaging. EPI uses a special signal technology that improves penetration and maintains image quality in technically difficult patients. Previously this type of technology was only available on premium ultrasound systems. Now clinicians have a more cost-effective alternative to use in a range of applications including abdominal, gynecological, and obstetrical imaging.
“We are thrilled to be at the forefront of ultrasound innovation,” said Laurent Pelissier, CTO of Ultrasonix. “Our EPI technology delivers high quality exams for difficult-to-image patients; representing a significant advance in Ultrasonix systems in terms of image penetration, contrast resolution, frame rate and image quality. There simply is no other ultrasound system on the market that can meet the economic needs of clinics and deliver state-of-the-art imaging for difficult patient populations.”
Ultrasonix uses a breakthrough signal processing technology that codes and decodes the pulse allowing for greater penetration. It provides an innovative method to deliver high quality imaging at a superior performance-to-price ratio for physicians and technicians in comparison to systems using conventional technology.
The World Health Organization estimates that there are more than 1 billion overweight adults around the world, with at least 300 million of them clinically obese. Of especial concern is the increasing incidence of child obesity. Obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally. EPI addressed the technically difficult-to-image patient by bringing the ability to obtain quality diagnostic images on this growing patient population.
For the past 8 years, Ultrasonix Smart Ultrasound Systems have successfully addressed the needs of emerging users of ultrasound -- including internists, emergency room physicians, OB/GYN, and general surgery -- to deliver better patient care. Ideally suited for a range of clinical settings, practitioners prefer the sleek, maneuverable and intuitive design of Ultrasonix Smart Ultrasound systems and enjoy greater diagnostic confidence and faster decision making.
