Thermo Fisher Scientific Announce Certification for the Varioskan Flash Multimode Reader use in Invitrogen LanthaScreen Assays

MILFORD, Mass., (March 16, 2009) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that the Thermo Scientific Varioskan Flash spectral scanning multimode reader has been certified for use with LanthaScreen® assays, from Invitrogen, a division of Life Technologies Corporation. The LanthaScreen assay is an advanced time-resolved fluorescence energy transfer (TR-FRET) technology for drug discovery applications. Using the time-resolved fluorescence (TRF) technology of the Varioskan® Flash, biological background interference is minimized, improving sensitivity in cellular assays. The flexibility of the Varioskan Flash, in combination with the LanthaScreen platform enables rapid application of TR-FRET technology to multiple target classes across a wide range of application areas, such as second messenger, kinase or hormone receptor assays.

The Thermo Scientific Varioskan Flash provides accurate fluorescence cell-based assay results due its advanced features, such as the automatic instrument calibration system, combined with automatic measurement control and diagnostics. The easy-to-use multiwavelength measurement feature makes it possible to accurately measure donor and acceptor emissions in a simple and time-efficient manner. Furthermore, these assays can be precisely performed using low volume 384-well plates, making the combination of the Varioskan Flash and LanthaScreen especially useful for screening purposes where low sample consumption is important.

The Varioskan Flash multimode reader provides high-quality data with low background fluorescence, enabling accurate results to be obtained with LanthaScreen TR-FRET assay technology from Invitrogen. For any additional information please visit www.thermo.com/readingroom.
