MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tangible™ Science, LLC, an innovator creating a dramatically better contact lens experience for patients and eye care practices, today announced the first set of licensing partners and authorized laboratory partners offering Tangible™ Hydra-PEG, its new contact lens coating designed to reduce discomfort. Tangible Hydra-PEG has been shown to improve wettability, increase surface water retention and lubricity, and minimize deposits on lenses.
Tangible Hydra-PEG authorized laboratory partners in the U.S. include: AccuLens, Advanced Vision Technology, Art Optical, Boston Foundation for Sight, GP Specialists, Metro-Optics, TruForm Optics, and X-Cel Specialty Contacts.
International laboratory partners include: Blanchard Contact Lenses, Corneal Lens Corp NZ Ltd, Falco Linsen AG, Hetych, Northern Lenses, and Oftalmica Iovino Snc.
Contamac™ is a global licensing partner and offers Tangible Hydra-PEG on its Optimum gas permeable (GP) lenses. SynergEyes® is also a global licensing partner and offers the coating on its Duette® hybrid lens materials.
“The custom contact lens space has had little innovation for many years,” said Martin Dalsing, president of Contamac US. “By making GP lenses comfortable enough to wear all day long, Tangible Hydra-PEG will give us the ability to transform eye care practices and the lens wearing experience for patients who demand perfect vision.”
“Tangible Hydra-PEG has enabled us to significantly improve satisfaction and comfort for our lenses,” said James Kirchner, O.D., president and chief executive officer of SynergEyes. “Because of the enhanced lubricity and wettability of the coating, end of day comfort has been maximized, which has been welcomed by both patients and eye care practitioners.”
Tangible Hydra-PEG is a high water polymer coating that is permanently bonded to the surface of a contact lens. It creates a wetting surface that encapsulates the underlying lens material and enables it to integrate easily into the ocular environment without disrupting the tear film. Tangible Hydra-PEG can be applied to all contact lens materials, including hydrogel, silicone hydrogel, gas permeable, hybrid, and smart contact lenses. The coating should be beneficial to patients who experience ocular dryness or discomfort associated with contact lens wear, moderate or heavy depositors, and scleral lens wearers who experience fogging.
“We are thrilled by the initial adoption of our groundbreaking technology by major licensing and laboratory partners globally,” said Tangible Science Chief Executive Officer Vic McCray, MD. “The eye care professionals that work with these partners have said we bring a ‘WOW factor’ that they haven’t been able to offer their patients until now. We look forward to adding to our portfolio of products and relationships built around the Tangible Hydra-PEG brand to benefit doctors and their patients everywhere.”
