MUNDELEIN, Ill., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Sysmex America, Inc., today announced that the company has entered into an agreement with the West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS) to standardize hematology instrumentation, training, technical support, and service for the network’s six hospitals, one system core laboratory, one ambulatory care center and one medical practice network laboratory, said John Kershaw, President, Sysmex America, Inc. Sysmex’s hematology contract for the WPAHS Laboratory Re-Instrumentation Online Market was based on technical merit and pricing. WPAHS’ network of six affiliated institutions, including some of the best hospitals and leading specialists in advanced medicine in the nation, provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services for Pittsburgh and the surrounding tri-state area. Currently, WPAHS performs hematology testing on nearly 600,000 specimens annually.
“The volume of specimens that WPAHS processes on an annual basis demanded that we seek out a laboratory equipment manufacturer that had a proven track record of instrument uptime and one that enabled greater work efficiency while cost-effectively producing accurate results. We believe we found this in Sysmex’s hematology product offering. The reliability of Sysmex technology and the universal use of its reagents and quality control materials across all of its hematology instruments made Sysmex America a logical choice,” said Mark Kranc, Ph.D., interim general manager, West Penn Allegheny Health System Laboratories.
WPAHS’s Sysmex purchases include an enterprise-wide MOLIS WAM work area management software and HST-N 302 hematology automation line, four XE-AlphaN hematology systems, and several hematology analyzers including one XE-2100, six XT-2000i, and two XT-1800i.
“Sysmex America has a complete line of hematology instruments for any laboratory size, and with multiple facilities within WPAHS using our hematology instrumentation, system laboratorians will have the same powerful diagnostic capabilities, including our fluorescent flow technology, across instrument range,” said Kershaw. “Physicians within WPAHS also can remain confident of high quality hematology results, regardless of the WPAHS facility, and laboratory personnel will experience even greater work efficiency through standardized operations procedures across multi-site locations,” he added.
According to a recent IMV ServiceTrak(TM) survey, Sysmex hematology instrumentation ranks the industry’s best in reliability, performance and first-time fix rates. Sysmex also tracks a 64% success rate in diagnosing instrument issues on the phone and a 59% success rate of solving instrument issues on the phone. IMV ServiceTrak(TM), conducted by an independent research company that analyzes science-based instrument industries, surveyed more than 1,600 randomly chosen clinical laboratory health care professionals from varying hospital sizes across the country.
