New York, New York (PRWEB) May 31, 2013 -- Stryker hip lawsuit claims filed in the wake of the July 2012 recall for Rejuvenate and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems continue to mount in courts throughout the country, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to a Case List posted on the Court's website on May 28th, 161 Stryker hip recall lawsuits have been filed in a consolidated litigation now underway in New Jersey's Bergen County Superior Court. Court records indicate that 81 claims had been filed in the New Jersey litigation when it was first established earlier this year. Stryker Hip Recall
Stryker's Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems were recalled in July 2012, after the metal hip replacement components were found to be prone to fretting and corrosion at the modular neck junction. Should this occur, Stryker says recipients may suffer pain and adverse local tissue reactions, as well as the need to have the hip replaced. The latest Stryker hip recall update advised affected patients to undergo metal ion blood testing and cross sectional imaging to determine if their hips are functioning properly, even if they have not experienced any signs or symptoms that would indicate their hip implants are failing.*
According to filings in the New Jersey litigation, Stryker hip lawsuit plaintiffs have allegedly suffered numerous complications due to the recalled components, including local tissue reactions manifesting with pain and/or swelling, and other adverse outcomes including metallosis, necrosis and osteolysis. Judge Brian R. Martinotti, who is overseeing the New Jersey Stryker hip recall litigation, has scheduled a Case Management Conference for June 18th.
Earlier this year, a number of plaintiffs in federally-filed Stryker hip replacement lawsuits petitioned the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) to establish a consolidated proceeding for those claims in a single federal court. The Panel heard Oral Arguments on the matter yesterday, and is expected to render a decision soon.
