Startup Torquin Seeks To Boost Austin Biotech Industry

The 5-year-old Austin biotech company is slowly and quietly -- experiment by experiment, patent by patent -- developing what it claims might be the most profound breakthrough in 100 years of medicine. "We've tried to be really, really quiet," founder and President Dr. Robert Hofmann says. With a recent $2 million investment, a new $200,000 research deal with the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and another $10 million foreign investment in the works, Torquin is on the cusp of human trials and U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for its formula.
