TROY, Mich., June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Somanetics Corporation today announced that General John P. Jumper, former U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff, has been elected to the Company’s Board of Directors, effective immediately. General Jumper, 62, becomes the sixth member of the Board, filling a newly created opening as a Class III director. His term will expire at the 2010 annual meeting of stockholders.

Before retiring from the Air Force on November 1, 2005, General Jumper spent more than four years as Chief of Staff, the senior uniformed Air Force officer responsible for the organization, training and equipping of more than 700,000 active-duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas. As a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he functioned as a military advisor to the Secretary of Defense, National Security Council and the President of the United States.
From February 2000 to September 2001, General Jumper was the Commander of Headquarters Air Combat Command. General Jumper has commanded an F-16 fighter squadron and two fighter wings, accumulating more than 5,000 flying hours, including more than 1,400 combat hours in Vietnam and Iraq.
General Jumper serves on the Board of Directors of Goodrich Corporation, TechTeam Global, Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and SAIC, Inc. He also serves as director of several private companies and as an advisor and independent consultant to several technology companies. General Jumper received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Virginia Military Institute and an MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
