SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Solazyme, a bioscience company pioneering biofuels and health/wellness products from microalgae, has named Troy J. Campione, Ph.D., to the position of senior vice president of business development.
Campione will lead the development, negotiation, and finalization of partnership agreements and contracts with major companies. These deals will help fund research and development programs leveraging Solazyme's work on biofuels and industrial chemicals.
Campione has extensive experience monetizing technology across diverse industries and geographies. Most recently he was general manager and vice president of Symyx Technologies, Inc., a company providing high throughput research and informatics technologies globally to the chemical, energy, polymer, pharmaceutical, and electronics industries. At Symyx, he was accountable for collaborative research, strategic alliances, and materials licensing. During his tenure, Campione leveraged the company's technology position to negotiate more than $400 million of new research services, products, and licensing revenues with major chemical and energy companies including ExxonMobil, Dow Chemical, BP, Ineos, Innovene, and Celanese.

Prior to Symyx, Campione spent 15 years at ExxonMobil in business, research and development, and technology management positions in Houston, Baytown, and Baton Rouge. He led the research and development activities for advanced catalyst and process technologies as worldwide basic chemicals technology manager, delivered continued success and growth of the vinyl intermediates area as its business manager, and prioritized, championed, and secured significant chemical plant expansions for the intermediates business of Exxon Chemical.
Campione earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and also holds M.E. and B.S degrees in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University.
