BioTechnology GmbH announces that the European Patent Office at 12th April 2006 has granted a patent, containing claims for a new gene synthesis technology. The issued patent covers the Sloning-specific DNA building blocks library and its utilisation for the assembly of synthetic gene constructs. The patent will be valid until mid 2020. International equivalents have also been filed in other important markets, as for example USA and Japan.
The Sloning technology comprises a unique method for the enzymatic assembly of double stranded DNA building blocks. All processes and raw materials are highly standardised, enabling the transfer of the whole synthesis procedure onto a robotic production platform. In contrast to currently applied methods, no laborious synthesis of individually designed, single stranded oligonucleotides is necessary. In the near future, the high-throughput production of synthetic genes will adopt a key position for making genomic data available for practical applications.
