EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2006--Savient Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: SVNT - News) today announced that Dr. Lee S. Simon, Mr. Alan L. Heller, and Mr. Joseph "Skip" Klein III, will stand for election as independent directors at the Company's annual stockholders meeting, which is scheduled for May 23, 2006, in New York City. They will replace Mr. Jeremy Hayward-Surry (the current Chairman) and Dr. Herbert Weissbach, who have announced their decision to retire from Savient's Board of Directors and Mr. Carl Kaplan who retired from the Board of Directors effective as of April 5, 2006.
