Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute officially opens its $80 million Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies on Sept. 10. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the conclusion of RPI’s two-day biotechnology symposium Sept. 9-10. Princeton University President Shirley Tilghman, who also is a professor of molecular biology, will speak during the symposium on “The Human Genome Decoded: Promises Kept and Promises to Come.” Professors from New York University, University of California at Berkeley, Yale and Massachusetts Institute of Technology will join RPI professors in giving presentations as well as representatives from companies. Politicians invited include Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), U.S. Rep. Michael McNulty (D-Green Island) and New York Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno (R-Brunswick).
