TOLEDO, OH--(Marketwire - October 03, 2011) - A new hospital exclusively for treating patients with orthopaedic and spine conditions opened today in Toledo, Ohio.
The ProMedica Wildwood Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, a division of ProMedica Toledo Hospital, is the first specialty center of its kind in northwest Ohio. The facility has a staff of 17 orthopaedic and neurosurgeons, more than 70 registered nurses and other Toledo hospital doctors and medical staff, including hospitalists and physical therapists. All are specially-trained in orthopaedic and spine care.
The $33 million facility spans 70,000-square-feet and includes the following:
- Six hi-tech, integrated operating rooms
- 36 private patient rooms
- Inpatient physical therapy
- Comprehensive inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services, including CT, MRI and general X-ray
- HemoSafe® blood management system (one of only eight units in the country)
- eICU® telemedicine system
Patients who are treated at the new hospital will be in close proximity to comprehensive health and wellness services on the same campus, including outpatient rehabilitation, sports medicine and a health and fitness club.
There is growing demand for this kind of specialty. According to American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (2006), musculoskeletal symptoms (pain, stiffness, swelling, etc.) were the number two reason for doctor office visits. Also in the last decade, the volume of orthopaedic procedures, such as knee replacement surgeries, have doubled among baby boomers (Associated Press).
This is ProMedica’s first all digital hospital, complete with electronic health records technology. Also, the building is environmentally friendly, from the lighting to the heating, ventilation and cooling systems. It was constructed using 3D Building Information Modeling to reduce waste and inefficiency in the design and construction.
