Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse Incubator Signs NanoDynamics™ Life Sciences As New Tenant

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG), a partnership to put the region’s life sciences industry on a fast track for growth, today announced that NanoDynamics(TM) Life Sciences, a subsidiary of Buffalo-based NanoDynamics Inc., is leasing lab and office space in the PLSG Incubator. The company intends to expand to up to 50 employees in the region over the next three years.

NanoDynamics(TM) Life Sciences has licensed for development a polymer nano tube technology, developed in Pittsburgh, which has shown potential for many applications, including sophisticated sensory and controlled release structures. Initial applications could be in the food and drug industries, along with more conventional industrial applications.

“Nano technology encompasses so much that the key is to focus on applications that can have the broadest impact on society and touch people in their everyday lives,” said Alan Rae, Ph.D., Vice President Market and Business Development at NanoDynamics(TM). “This polymer nano tube technology will enable us to create structures in near atomic size concentrations to help dramatically improve the development and enhancement of drug and food formulations. And that’s just the beginning.”

“One of the reasons NanoDynamics(TM) chose to expand into this region was the work of Alan Russell, a good friend of the PLSG and the Executive Director of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and the Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative,” said Doros Platika, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse. “He and his team developed the polymer nano tube technology that NanoDynamics(TM) will license. Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Russell and so many other pioneers in the region’s life sciences community, Pittsburgh’s added attraction was its talent pool of people with the right expertise to bring NanoDynamics’ vision to life.”

NanoDynamics Inc., which currently employs 69 at its Buffalo operations, is a leader in nanotechnology development. The company serves the defense, energy, electronics, and engineering industries.
