Newron Pharmaceuticals: Preclinical Results Of Ralfinamide In A Model Of Central Pain To Be Presented At The European Federation Of IASP Chapters (EFIC) 6th International Congress

Milan, Italy – September 3, 2009 – Newron Pharmaceuticals SpA, a research and development company focused on novel CNS and pain therapies, announced today that positive results of a preclinical study of ralfinamide in an experimental model of central pain will be presented at the Sixth International Congress of the European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC), Lisbon, Portugal, September 9-12, 2009.

The study was conducted by Professor Ze’ev Seltzer, Senior Canada Research Chair in Genetics of Pain, University of Toronto, Canada. The poster entitled “Oral ralfinamide suppresses autotomy following hindpaw deafferentation by multiple dorsal rhizotomies, a rat model of CNS-mediated spontaneous neuropathic pain” will be presented during the Poster Session on Thursday, September 10, 2009, 16:00-16:45, abstract n. 314.

Ralfinamide is a unique new chemical entity that is believed to mediate its potent analgesic effect through the inhibition of sodium channels, including Nav 1.7, N-type Calcium channels and NMDA receptor. It is currently in Phase IIb/III for Neuropathic Low Back Pain.
