Metabolix, Inc. Announces Hiring Of VP Sales And Marketing

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Metabolix Inc. announced today that it has named Robert C. Findlen as Vice President, Sales and Marketing. Findlen will play a key role in commercializing the company’s innovative Natural Plastics, including establishing the brand, developing value-driven market opportunities, and setting marketing direction for the Company’s joint venture with Archer Daniels Midland Company. He will also be responsible for building a strong global marketing and sales team that will address the growing market for high performing and environmentally sound materials.

Findlen joins Metabolix from GE Plastics, where he served as Vice President and Director of LNP Americas Commercial Business and Product Marketing Director for LNP Products. Prior to its acquisition by GE, Findlen served as Vice President and Director, Sales and Marketing for LNP. He has over 25 years of experience in marketing, product management, and sales roles within the GE and LNP organizations.

Metabolix Natural Plastics can be used as alternatives to petrochemical plastics in a wide variety of applications, including coated paper, film or bags, and thermoformed and molded goods. They are produced using a fully biological fermentation process that converts agricultural raw materials such as corn sugar into a versatile range of plastics with excellent durability in use but that also biodegrade benignly in a wide range of environments, including marine and wetlands. The company was awarded the Presidential Green Chemistry Award by the U.S. EPA in 2005 for its pathbreaking production technology. In March 2006, Archer Daniels Midland Company and Metabolix announced plans to build a 50,000 ton commercial plant for its Natural Plastics in Clinton, Iowa, with start-up targeted in 2008. The company is currently in pilot production, developing applications with selected customers.
