Dr. Emilio Emini, who helps head vaccine research at Merck and Co. Inc.,, announced on Tuesday he is leaving to work fulltime on HIV vaccines at the nonprofit International Aids Vaccine Initiative. Emini, who helped develop drugs to treat HIV while at Merck and who led the company’s work on an AIDS vaccine, will now oversee IAVI’s research efforts.
