A SECOND cervical cancer vaccine based on research by former Australian of the Year Ian Frazer has gone on sale nationally, and claims to protect women too old to receive the rival Gardasil vaccine already available.Although Gardasil was made available free of charge under the federal Government’s National Immunisation Program earlier this year, it is approved only for women aged 12 to 26. The release of the new vaccine, Cervarix, now means women aged 27 to 45 can be immunised by a GP.
