IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- MDxHealth, PsychArmor Institute, and Elizabeth Dole Foundation have partnered to launch an online education campaign designed to improve awareness and appropriate utilization of innovative precision medicine technologies among Veterans, their caregivers, and healthcare providers. Each year, 12,500 Veterans are diagnosed with prostate cancer, making it the most frequently diagnosed cancer among Veterans. To help address a lack of resources on this issue, the first course of the education campaign—housed in PsychArmor’s School for Military Veteran Caregivers and Families—educates Veterans and their caregivers on what to expect if they are at high risk for prostate cancer. The course, entitled “Navigating the Prostate Cancer Journey: Empowering Veterans and their Caregivers with Precision Medicine,” also outlines the biomarker tests they may encounter at different points throughout the diagnostic journey, and how to be a strong patient advocate.

“Precision medicine tools, such as our biomarker tests, are improving the way that doctors approach complicated and difficult-to-diagnose conditions such as prostate cancer,” said Dr. Jan Groen, Chief Executive Officer of MDxHealth, a leader in the growing field of molecular diagnostics for urological oncology. “America’s Veterans deserve the highest standard of care possible, and that’s why we are proud that our innovative tests are available to Veterans. MDxHealth is committed to ensuring that Veterans, caregivers, and their physicians understand their options and have peace of mind throughout the diagnostic process.”

Senator Elizabeth Dole, a caregiver to her Veteran husband Senator Bob Dole, explained, “Caregivers are with their Veteran at every step of the prostate cancer journey. We must ensure they’re equipped with the information and tools they need to make informed decisions about their care.”

“These biomarker tests are proven to reduce wait times, save money, and – most importantly – save lives. We’re proud to partner with MDxHealth and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to ensure that Veterans and their caregivers and healthcare providers understand the value and utility of these tests,” said Marjorie Morrison, CEO and Founder of the PsychArmor Institute.

Two additional courses, which will be part of PsychArmor’s School for Healthcare Providers, are being developed to educate urologists and pathologists on the value and use of precision medicine tools available to deliver faster, more accurate diagnostics to ensure patients with prostate cancer receive appropriate care at the appropriate time.

Prostate cancer is extremely difficult to diagnose – it is symptomless in its early stages, and biopsies often miss detecting cancer. Biomarker tests use genetics and genomics to improve clinicians’ ability to detect the disease earlier and determine the right treatment path. Currently, there are five prostate cancer biomarker tests available on the Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) for use by physicians who serve Veterans, including SelectMDx and ConfirmMDx.
