The Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation (MassBioEd) today announced the appointment of Sunny Schwartz as Executive Director.
May 22, 2019 (CAMBRIDGE, MA) – The Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation (MassBioEd) today announced the appointment of Sunny Schwartz as Executive Director. Schwartz will collaborate with an engaged Board of Directors to build on the organization’s success, identify new opportunities for increased revenue, and advance a vision of increased impact.
“The need to attract and train the next generation of workers has never been greater, as we’re predicting 12,000 additional jobs in the life sciences by 2023,” said Chris Murphy, Chair of the MassBioEd Board of Directors and Vice President / General Manager of Viral Vector Services at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “We’re proud to welcome Sunny to the Foundation as her skills and relationships are exactly what we need to maintain excellence in the content and delivery of MassBioEd’s existing programs while ensuring that it continues to grow, adapt, and innovate to best meet the changing needs of the stakeholders we serve.”
Schwartz comes to MassBioEd from the MassHire Metro North Workforce Board where she served as President and CEO since 2016. In this role she managed a team of 14, raised more than $4M in funding, and built strong relationships and partnerships with education leaders and workforce stakeholders. Prior to joining the Metro North Workforce Board, Schwartz had an impressive career in the non-profit sector including more than 10 years as COO at the Asian American Civic Association, a direct service education and training provider, and in program development at the Commonwealth Corporation where she coordinated the Boston Biotechnology Workforce Project and other sector initiatives.

Schwartz has a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. Of note, she worked in the social work field prior to entering the non-profit sector. Schwartz will officially join as MassBioEd Executive Director in June.
