CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Managed Healthcare Executive®, a multimedia platform that provides market intelligence and solutions to C-suite executives of health plans, released the results of its annual 2019 State of the Industry survey, an extensive survey of nearly 200 industry executives from provider organizations, benefit-management organizations, health plans, long-term-care organizations, and group purchasing organizations.

“Each year, Managed Healthcare Executive® takes the pulse of the healthcare industry by tapping into the unrivaled insights of top industry executives through its State of the Industry survey,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., the president and CEO of MJH Life Sciences™. “As the year ends, it is vital for key stakeholders in the field to stay cognizant of the current climate of the industry and how it will continue evolving in 2020.”

The survey assessed participants on their general feelings about the current state of the healthcare industry, including the biggest challenges facing healthcare organizations and executives, the perspective of individual organizations in the shift toward value-based care and the many costs and compensation factors associated with the industry.

Although the future of the industry remains largely uncertain, survey results indicated that 48% of healthcare professionals say healthcare costs and quality are worsening. Complying with policy changes and government requirements remained the top challenge facing healthcare organizations, while navigating an ever-changing environment (i.e., value-based care, policy changes, new government mandates, population health management) was the largest struggle from a leadership perspective.

This year’s survey also revealed how organizations plan to combat rising healthcare costs; leading responses included strengthening provider partnerships (60%), increasing adoption of value-based contracts with providers (46%), and enhancing price transparency tools (33%).

On the topic of technology, when asked about their use of big data to improve healthcare quality and reduce costs, 47% of survey respondents said that while they have come a long way, there is still a lot to be learned.
