IRadimed Corporation Awarded Novation Contract For Its Award Winning MRidium(TM) MRI IV Pump System And Remote Control

WINTER PARK, Fla., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Novation, the health care contracting services company of VHA Inc. and the University Health System Consortium (UHC), has awarded IRadimed Corporation a two-year contract for its MRidium(TM) MRI Infusion System. The agreement was awarded through Novation’s new technology evaluation process, which accelerates the review process of new and improved technologies. The agreement will make the MRidium(TM) System available to more than 2,500 VHA and UHC member health care organizations, starting March 1st, 2007. “Novation is committed to providing alliance members with speedier access to savings on new innovative health care technology,” said Deborah Archer, senior product manager, at Novation. “The agreement with IRadimed is an example of Novation’s ongoing efforts to offer the latest medical technologies as they emerge into the marketplace.”

The MRidium(TM) System is the only Non Magnetic IV Pump designed specifically for use in the MRI Environment. Safety in the MR is the primary concern when it comes to meeting needs for required patient care. These risks are well known: equipment can fly into the MR, cause artifacts on the images of the scan, or just shut down during crucial deliveries of medications and monitoring. “It is critical to have products which have been designed with the utmost care and thorough insight of this harsh and potentially dangerous environment,” said Roger Susi, founder of IRadimed Corporation.

The MRidium(TM) Systems have the ability to work at the 10,000 Gauss Line environment of 1.5 and 3.0 Tesla MR Scanners, and has a unique remote control ability for adjusting critical medication deliveries from outside the MR Scanner room. The safe placement of the pump is of the utmost importance, because these safety-critical Gauss lines are invisible and different for every magnet design and strength, which makes it difficult to know where safe limits are in relation to the MR Scanner. The 10,000 Gauss Line is virtually inside the bore of the MR Scanner in many cases, which allows the use of the MRidium pump in close proximity to the MR Scanner. The MRidium(TM) System’s remote ability allows clinicians to monitor the infusion progress and make changes to the pump from outside the MR scanner room, providing the ability to adjust critical medications, such as Propofol, which is used for Anesthesia without having to stop the scan.

The MRidium(TM) System also supports infusion delivery in the MR through our additional accessories and features associated with the MRidium(TM) MRI Infusion Pump and Remote. The system offers a modular second channel which allows for delivery of two medications simultaneously during patient scans. A range of available infusion sets provides the necessary clinical flexibility needed for MRI Infusion. The MRidium(TM) 1055 Bypass Infusion set allows clinicians to quickly change over IV sets from the hospital based infusion system without having to disconnect the lines from the patient. The MRidium(TM) 1057 Vented Syringe Adapter Set allows for accurate delivery from a syringe using a low priming volume of only 4 milliliters per set.

The MRidium(TM) System is distributed in the US, Canada, and Mexico through our distribution partner Mallinckrodt Imaging, Inc. a division of Tyco Healthcare. In June, 2006 IRadimed Corporation signed an exclusive distribution contract with Mallinckrodt Imaging to provide Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service for the United States Hospital Market.
