Intuitive Surgical has pioneered the use of robots in the surgical suite, completing 652,000 procedures using its flagship “da Vinci” system in 2015 alone. Now the Sunnyvale company needs more elbow room to develop, market and build its systems, instruments and accessories.
The 16-year-old company turned in plans last month for a major campus expansion totaling up to 600,000 square feet in two buildings, according to city records. The project would demolish a cluster of buildings at 1050-1090 Kifer Road, replacing them with two, four-story buildings and a duo of parking garages.
