Integrated Clinical Trial Services Names Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Clinical Operations

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom Sturgis, president of Integrated Clinical Trial Services (ICTS) (www.integratedtrials.com), a full-service patient enrollment firm that utilizes more than 300 contract employees internationally to provide clinical trial patient recruitment, enrollment, retention and adherence, has announced that Dr. David M Shearer has joined the firm as chief medical officer and vice president of clinical operations. In his position, Dr. Shearer will oversee the medical components of ICTS-affiliated clinical trials, which include such duties as protocol review and quality assurance in patient recruitment and the education of physicians for the trials.

Dr. Shearer has 11 years of experience in performing more than 100 clinical trials at some of America’s largest pharmaceutical companies. These included trials for Type I and II diabetes mellitus, myocardial infarction (commonly called a heart attack), stroke, gastroenterology, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s, depression, sleep disorders, hypertension and hyperlipidemia (abnormally high lipids or fats in the bloodstream, which can speed hardening of the arteries).

Dr. Shearer has served as a clinical trial manager at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for its Phase II and III trials for Type I and II diabetes mellitus, a senior research scientist at both GSK and Wyeth, a worldwide clinical compliance specialist at Wyeth, and a senior clinical trial leader at Sanofi-Aventis. He has also functioned as a research consultant to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation’s Neurosurgery Department, resulting in multiple publications involving stroke, Alzheimer’s and hydrocephalus (commonly called water on the brain), as well as performed in-hospital research at Temple University in Philadelphia. Prior to joining ICTS, Dr. Shearer served as medical director of diabetes at MannKind Corp.

While at GSK, when it was known as SmithKline Beecham, Dr. Shearer initiated its first Patient Recruitment Group in 1998. He has since been invited to attend recruitment seminars and was keynote speaker for a conference on “Accelerating Patient Recruitment” in London in 2005.

Quotes:

“The addition of Dr. Shearer to our team will further our development of educational services for physicians, coordinators and patients as well as expedite the development of several new products to our already outstanding patient recruitment, enrollment and retention portfolio,” said Sturgis. “His broad range of experience in all levels of clinical research and patient enrollment will help take ICTS to the next level in our corporate development.”
