ARLINGTON, Texas, July 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- A Web-enabled HIPAA training system, designed to educate Texas Health Resources employees about the government-mandated privacy policy, has garnered a national award for the Arlington, Texas-based health care system.
THR was named one of three winners of the 2004 Most Wired Innovator Awards, selected from 482 surveys representing 1,298 hospitals.
Names of the 2004 Innovator Award winners are printed in the July issue of Hospital & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association.
“It’s an honor to be recognized with AHA’s Most Wired Innovator Award for our system’s deployment of HIPAA and privacy training,” said David Muntz, chief information officer of Texas Health Resources. “It demonstrates how health care information technology professionals can work at the nexus of two rapidly changing industries to promote the health and well-being of our communities.”
Muntz said the online HIPAA training was cost effective and allowed more than 17,000 employees and 4,000 physicians on the medical staffs of THR hospitals to receive specialized education and assessment in a self-paced environment that minimized work interruptions.
“This technologically advanced solution will support our future training deployment for years to come,” Muntz said.
Three winners and three finalists for the innovator awards were chosen from applicants who submitted an additional essay for Hospital & Health Networks’ Most Wired Awards. The survey grades hospitals based on the emphasis the organization places on online technology.
The 2004 Innovator awards will be presented July 25-27 at the Health Forum Leadership Summit in San Diego.
