SAN JOSE, Calif. /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating its 8th anniversary, the 2018 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference (GHTC) is a world class conference focused on discussing sustainable development and humanitarian technology related policy, insight and experiences and showcasing activities aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Today, IEEE GHTC 2018 announces keynote speakers and program highlights. GHTC 2018 will be October 18-21 in San Jose, CA, USA at the DoubleTree by Hilton San Jose, featuring a vibrant program of plenary presentations, paper and poster presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and unconference sessions. Researchers and practitioners will exchange experiences related to disaster mitigation, affordable & clean energy, agriculture & food security, clean water & sanitation, community engagement and capacity-building, connectivity & communication, healthcare, poverty alleviation, humanitarian challenges & opportunities, education and entrepreneurship. Keynote speakers include Kofi Taha (MIT’s D-Lab), Ron Snyder (Cisco Tactical Operations), and Ben Wilson (Intellectual Ventures Laboratory). Panel sessions will address field perspectives on the UN SDGs and the role of education in development. This year’s conference will feature several participatory workshops on Health, Energy, Disaster Situations, Water/Agriculture and Humanitarian Challenges. Attendees are encouraged The healthcare track features presentations on technology-enabled devices to test air quality, mHealth systems for stroke rehabilitation and maternal health, the development of prosthesis and Parkinson’s disease assessment, as well as cost-effective urinalysis screening tools. Furthermore, presentations cover community work conducted in a diverse number of underserved populations, including Malawi, Ethiopia, Senegal, Kenya, South Africa, India, and Vanuatu. GHCT 2018 will feature several pre-conference special events on Thursday, October 18th.
