Housing, Transportation Gap Blocks Biotech Boom

A growing biotech industry in the northern end of San Mateo County is already putting stress on the need for housing and better transportation, Matthew Gardner, CEO of Bay Bio testified at local state Senate hearing yesterday.The state Senate Select Committee on Bay Area Sustainable Development and Economic Progress held a meeting yesterday in Redwood City to hear testimony from regional agencies regarding transportation and growth. The testimony depicted a booming economy — braced by biotech, information and green technology — stifled by lackluster funding for transportation and few incentives for cities to build housing.
