April 1, 20111 -- GEA Pharma Systems – Courtoy™ at Interpack
GEA Pharma Systems - Courtoy™ will exhibit two tablet presses at Interpack in Düsseldorf from 12 – 18 May 2011. They represent the finest tabletting technology currently available offering the ultimate in containment and high-performance production and are perfect examples of inspiration meeting technology.
Containment is a continual problem when dealing with highly potent active ingredients. The tabletting process is particularly challenging owing to the complexity of the machinery, the continual flow of product through the machine and the need for cleaning during product changeover.
The MODUL™ P
The MODUL™ tablet presses from Courtoy have addressed this requirement for both fast product changeover and high containment with their Exchangeable Compression Modules (ECM). The ECM contains all the components that are in contact with the active ingredient in a single module that protects the operator during production and can be switched in just 30 minutes at product changeover and washed off line (WOL).
The MODUL™ P, currently supplied to leading companies throughout Europe, Japan, India and the USA, is perfect for formulation development, clinical trial production and small-batch/multi-product production. It will be displayed at Interpack in this Wash-off-Line (WOL) configuration that allows the ECM to be removed for efficient cleaning without risk of exposing the immediate environment to potent or toxic active ingredients. The exhibit will also include ancillary equipment such as: a Buck Systems™ hoist and IBC; a Buck® MC valve DN200; a washable Pharma Flex deduster 1000 and Ceia metal detector; and washable Combi-Test Kraemer for automatic sampling. The high containment line on display is a typical installation supplied worldwide for the manufacturing of hormone and cytotoxic drugs.
MODUL™ tablet presses have taken their place as trusted technology worldwide since their introduction:
Antoaneta Grancharska, Technical Director for Actavis AD, has transferred a number of processes to the presses and commented: “We have been satisfied with the performance … the process support has proven to be very valuable with significant speed increase of production for a number of products.”
Dr. Hubert Bensmann, CEO of Haupt Pharma Münster, has had a dedicated production area for oral contraceptives operating since the middle of 2010 and has transferred a number of products to MODUL™ presses. “We are satisfied with the performance of the tablet presses,” he said. “We hope to be able to expand our business near term and order the next presses from GEA Courtoy.”
According to customer feedback, Courtoy has the best price-performance package for high containment applications.
The PERFORMA™ S
By contrast, the PERFORMA™ S, renowned for its instant high-output capability of up to 405,000 tablets per hour, will be a stand-alone exhibit showing the automatic turret removal with upper and lower punches, the integrated arm for turret removal, and the swivelling tablet chute.
To make sure its exceptional output capability is balanced with perfect tablet quality, the PERFORMA™ S is available with Courtoy™’s superior process control features Dual Control and adjustable dwell time at pre-compression. Dual Control enables the monitoring of tablet weight and hardness simultaneously, yet independently from one another. These two continuous control loops ensure optimal tablet quality is achieved at all times. The adjustable dwell time functionality allows increasing the dwell time at pre-compression independently from machine speed, resulting in higher machine speeds and more consistent tablet quality.
Both these features are also available on the MODUL™ range.
GEA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss applications and demonstrate the products’ capabilities.
