The Nasdaq Biotechnology Index (NBI) contains securities of Nasdaq-listed companies classified as either biotechnology or pharmaceutical, according to the Industry Classification Benchmark. Companies in the NBI must meet eligibility requirements, including minimum market capitalization and average daily trading volume, among other criteria. The NBI is re-ranked annually and forms the basis for a number of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), including the iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF.
