John Hancock Life Insurance Co. has closed on i ts $100.5 million acquisition of 535-545 Boylston St., two adjoining 13-story office properties in Boston’s Back Bay, according to a Suffolk County deed. The Business Journal’s Catherine Carlock first reported on the anticipated closing in July.

In an effort to reduce its payroll, GateHouse Media New England is offering employees a week of severance pay for each year of their employment if they agree to leave the company. As the BBJ’s Greg Ryan reports, those who have worked at GateHouse for 20 or more years will receive 17 weeks of base pay as part of their severance package, according to a letter sent to employees by GateHouse Media President and Publisher Sean Burke. Employees with less experience are capped at 13 weeks of base pay, even if they have worked for the company for more than 13 years.
