BOSTON, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Elekta activities at the 54th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) raised a total of $52,200 for Facing Cancer Together (FCT), a greater-Boston area nonprofit organization that guides and empowers individuals through the challenges of cancer. FCT offers a range of services and professionally facilitated programs, including support groups, expressive arts programming and mind-body wellness groups. Massachusetts is ranked eighth in the U.S. for cancer incidence*.
“Facing Cancer Together is honored to have been chosen by Elekta as charity of choice for 2012,” says Gail Bork, Executive Director Facing Cancer Together."Our organization shares a common goal in providing a valuable range of services for those facing cancer. It is truly a privilege being recognized for our work.”
The donation came from proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction for Elekta’s Charity Bash, held Saturday, October 27 at the Harvard Club of Boston, where more than 1,000 attendees enjoyed live music and dancing.
“As a key ally in the fight against cancer, Facing Cancer Together has demonstrated an intense dedication to providing resources and services to people with all types of cancer at all stages of the disease,” says Jay Hoey, Executive Vice President, Elekta. “As this organization’s devotion to individuals with cancer aligns with Elekta’s ‘We Care for Life’ mission, it is a fitting recipient of this year’s charitable funds.”
