Emeryville, CA (PRWEB) May 19, 2010 -- BioSoteria, Inc., a drug safety services and education firm, announced today that it has been certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
The WBENC validates that a business is at least 51-percent owned, controlled, operated and managed by a woman or group of women. A woman owner or female designate must hold the highest office within the company, and the woman managing the day-to-day operations must possess industry expertise. With BioSoteria exceeding these requirements, Dr. Sally Van Doren, the firm’s Founder, President and CEO, pursued the WBE designation to further encourage women in leadership roles in the biopharmaceutical industry at large and in drug safety practice in particular.
“Women comprise a large proportion of the pharmacovigilance workforce and have a vital role in promoting the safe use of pharmaceuticals,” said Dr. Van Doren. “I am pleased to offer biopharmaceutical companies the choice of contracting with a certified Women’s Business Enterprise to support their drug safety activities.”
To achieve WBE certification, BioSoteria completed an extensive application that required information on ownership, management, legal structure and financing. Once the documentation was reviewed, a formal site visit was administered by Astra Women’s Business Alliance, one of WBENC’s fourteen Regional Partner Organizations. BioSoteria received its official certification earlier this month.
