Did You Just Eat A Day’s Worth Of Salt In One Fast-Food Meal?

Chain restaurants in New York City will have to highlight extra-salty servings by adding a salt-shaker icon to their menus, under rules approved today by the city’s Board of Health. By Dec. 1, menus will have to call out sodium bombs that deliver at least 2,300 milligrams. That’s the limit set by the Food and Drug Administration’s guidelines for what people should consume, at most, for the whole day.

Turns out it’s not hard to get that much, or more, from a single meal. The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a consumer group that supports the new rules, highlights some of the saltiest meals you can order. It doesn’t take a bacon burger to make the list. Sometimes a grilled chicken caesar is enough.
