LIEGE, BELGIUM--(Marketwire - March 01, 2011) - Diagenode SA announced today that the Bioruptor® sonicator has been selected for the validated shotgun library preparation workflow of the Ion Torrent PGM sequencer.
As part of Ion Torrent’s goal to create a simple, efficient and cost-effective workflow to allow almost every researcher access to sequencing, Ion Torrent has surrounded the core PGM™ platform with an ecosystem of world-class upstream and downstream technologies. The Bioruptor® sonicator was selected for shearing DNA in the PGM™ shotgun library preparation because of its ability to create a highly-reproducible, narrow fragment size distribution while retaining dsDNA integrity.
“While the Bioruptor sonicator has been recognized in several dozen journals for DNA shearing using multiple next generation sequencing platforms, the selection as part of the validated workflow for the PGM™ System represents a major step forward in the recognition of the Bioruptor® sonicator as a cost-effective, highly reproducible and reliable solution,” said Didier Allaer, CEO and Founder of Diagenode SA.
The proprietary Bioruptor® process enables higher recoveries for nucleic acid extraction, chromatin shearing, protein digestion, and cell lysis along with true parallel multiple sample preparation when compared with other shearing and sonication systems available in the market. Developments made by Diagenode and the epigenetic and sequencing communities have focused on increasing the ease and consistency of sample preparation.
Workflows have become standardized using the Bioruptor® for both DNA and chromatin shearing upstream of next generation sequencing and other epigenetic experiments. “The Bioruptor’s ease of use, throughput capabilities, and flexibility has enabled the system to be widely used across different biological disciplines most recently embraced by the next generation sequencing community,” said Dr. Dominique Poncelet, Head of R&D at Diagenode.
